Yep.  I've only deployed one hero and 50 griffs, and the hero died, but still got 100% of the exp.

One thing to note:
If a hero is 60/60 and a hero is say, 46/60 and you deploy both and only those 2 heroes, the XP is split between BOTH of them, but, of course, the 60/60 hero won't actually gain the XP.
