I ran the numbers for troop type X vs troop type Y given stats and damage vs. specific armor.

In short:
Flying units crush melee + destructive troops.
Mechas take the longest time to kill.
Dragons and Ogres kill things faster than anything else does.
Ranged troops are okay vs. flying units, hopeless against everthing else.

Since Shotgun Dwarfs are only 2.2 to 1 vs dragons, skip those and build Griffins then Ogres then Dragons. (Ogres are more effective at bringing down walls than any other troop.)

My table only compares level 5 units. Only for Griffins should you consider building any units under level 3.
