To get a feel for the rewards, so far I got;
A1 - 150 exp/4000 gold
A2 - 200 exp/300 exp
A3 - 300 exp/600 exp
A4 - 400 exp/400 exp
A5 - 3000 exp/3000 exp
Total for A: 4300 exp, 4000 gold, 10 shards
Total for A: 4050 exp, 10 shards (so it seems that even the exp is random?)

B1 - 500 exp
B2 - 9000 mana
B3 - 700 exp
B4 - 11000 mana
B5 - 8000 exp
Total for B: 9200 exp, 20000 mana, 15 shards. Nice! :)
9200/17 (5 heroes + 12 garrison) = 540 exp per hero, that is pretty decent!

C1 - 900 exp
C2 - 2000 exp
C3 - 14000 mana
C4 - 1800 exp
C5 - 9000 exp
Total for C: 13700 exp, 14000 mana, 20 shards.
13700/17 = 805.9 exp per hero. Game gave 803 per hero (small miscalc to fix here!)

Gathering more evidence it seems that there is a multiplier on your reward involved, possibly affected by how fast you clear a wave, of 1.0, 1.5 or 2.0. Based on that the base exp you can gain per level is
A: 100, 200, 300, 400, 2000 (5x400)
B: 500, 600, 700, 800, 4000 (5x 800)
C: 900, 1000, 1100, 1200, 6000 (5x1200)
and probably etc. And on top of this you can get the multiplier up to 2!
For mana and gold it starts at 4k and increases by 1k each wave. The 5th wave seems to have 5xwave 4 as a reward in these currencies as well.

I'm excited to potentially have a reason to get a big shiny gold cannon for my base. :D
